Lydford Primary School is a small rural school on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park. In September 2016 there were 28 pupils on roll split into two classes.
AUTUMN TERM 2016
This term Exeter Chiefs will be working with Class2. Class 2 will also be visiting Lydford Gorge as part of their Guardianship scheme. Children from different year groups will be taking part in a variety of sporting events and the year 6s will be taking part in Junior Life Skills. The whole school will be celebrating Roald Dahl's 100th birthday with special lessons and a mufti day for charity on 13th September. At the end of term, the school will be presenting their Christmas performance in the Nicholls Hall and The Rainbow Theatre will be visiting with their pantomime.
Clubs this term at school include: gardening; OCRA sports club; problem solving games; recorders; art club; chess club and homework help.
There is also a Federation football club at Okehampton Community College, a Federation netball club based at Bridestowe and a MED Theatre film club based at Yelverton.

Our topic this term is All About Me
We will be studying the following things:
Science: Our bodies and senses
History: How we used to live: toys, school, clothes
Geography: Where we are in the world. Maps and Lydford
Art: Portraits - sketching, drawing and painting, 3D art
DT: Puppets and healthy snacks
RE: Special people and special places, festivals
ICT: algorithms and debugging
Music: exploring sounds and duration
PE: Leap Into Life and ball skills
PSHE: New beginnings
Literacy: Story writing; labels, lists and captions; poetry; grammar; spellings and handwriting.
The class will also study daily phonics through the Letters and Sounds scheme in 3 groups, depending on ability.
Reading is taught daily with a mixture of group guided and individual reading.
Maths is taught through groups, following the new curriculum
Year 2 will learn the recorder with Mrs Barkell.
The children in this class need PE kit for their lesson on Monday and trainers for the rest of the week as they have 30 minutes of PE each day and an hour on Mondays.
Treetops will be visiting the school to play with the younger children later in the term.

Autumn Term 2016
Our history topic this term is all about the Ancient Egyptians
In literacy we will be writing stories, poetry and non-fiction
In geography we will be looking at rivers.
In design technology we will be investigating Ancient Egyptian technology
Our art topic this term is landscapes
In science we will be investigating and finding out about Earth and space, rocks and soil
The main part of our RE work will be based on Christianity.
In computing we will study algorithms
In music, our topic will be based around the theme of 'Animal Magic'.
PSHE drugs safety first half term and looking at the lives of people from other cultures in 2nd half term
PE lessons take place on a Monday and Friday.
Children always need PE kit in school as we take part in daily physical activity every day .
